ebola screening
My elder sister works for the job centre in North London and received a memo today asking for volunteers to help screening for ebola at the airports. Duties to include helping out potential ebola cases with forms and taking there temperatures etc. No extra pay , no nothing just the possibility of catching a killer disease, amazing!

Nicey,

Yes, it is true. The way the shift pattern works is that three out of four weeks are 'three shifts', the last week is a four shift, to make up the 'average' hours worked pet week.
Shifts are twelve hours with a handover of 30mins each end so the next nurse is up to speed.
You have a set 'break' time which is allocated so you cover the other nurses patients whilst she is at break. The bugger is when something goes wrong, which unfortunately is a pretty common occurance in intensive care as the patients are very ill, that you miss your allocated time trying to rectify whatever had happened.
It is unusual, but this week that had happened.

Now going back to cover what Vexed said.....
Do you really think that you could operate at full brain power towards the ends of these shifts (could be night/day or mixture).
I don't think anyone could, and that is where the infection will be transferred or mistakes in care happen.
Like he said, dont be a nurse then. Which is true, but not all nursing jobs are the same (but the pay grade is).
Elderly care ward is a lot of bedpans.
ITU is a lot of high pressured drug balancing care.

Re: ebola screening
My first time in West Africa, and was really pleasantly surprised. Dakar is a lovely city and the people were all very friendly. The World Health Organisation is using Senegal as a case study of how to deal with the virus (shut the borders, set up centres to educate people on how to avoid contamination etc).

Best part of the trip was telling anyone who'd listen about my new found love for Sakho and Kouyate!!

There will come a time (probably when its too late) when all airports in Africa will be locked down.

Just landed at Heathrow from Senegal, and no screening at all. Met El Hadj Diouf while I was out there who told me that BFS is like a father to him and they still speak every week. Nowhere near the tosser I was expecting.

Good job he wasn't a tosser, bodily fluids are the vehicle for Ebola.

Simple answer is dont be a nurse in the first place if you dont like blood, vomit or sick people.

If you are one then do your fucking job.

Thats all I'm saying.

My wife is an ITU/HDU nurse at queens in romford. They've been told to expect cases in the next few weeks being a real possibility. We've spoken about it, and she'll rather be sacked than risk it. Gov can't be bothered with her welfare, and she is still at work as i write this, 52 hours this week with no breaks.
With that sort if workload, mistakes in care will definately happen over here

52 hours a week without a break? I doubt very much that the NHS would force their employees to do this and break the law.

I would suggest she records this illegal behaviour and then contact an employment lawyer as she will clean up and put even more strain on the NHS. That is if you didn't make that up of courses

Oh dear mr vexed.......

As others have said, not risking our family's life. I'm sure you would care for your family no?

Last week she had to have blood tests after an arterial line blew. Blood everywhere. Patient she was treating has all kinds of problems and some particularly nasty blood infections. She's no shirker, just doesnt fancy buying the farm yet.

Mrsa is still about. Hospital is hot on cross infections and risks associated.

Calm down vexed, old boy. The man is expressing his concern for hi missus and her concern considering the fucking bollocks that the media are spreading regarding Ebola.

Dagenite Dog..your Missus will be fine as long as she doesnt mix bodily fluids so tell her not to fuck the patient and she'll be fine....

Now Im going back to my Rum...

Well if you dont mind me saying, you and your missus sound like a pair of cunts.

If she's a nurse she should do her fucking job. If it was up to me i'd imprison anyone that shirked like that. Proper scum.

I don't agree with civil servants striking but when the powers that be ask your average employee to do this kind of thing it actually makes you realize how little government(s) think of their employee's, not only that it makes you realize just how out of touch they are with people. I think this memo/ email went out to quite alot of people
